Lawyer Learnings Log #5 - Doubt whom you will, but never yourself!

Lawyer Learnings Log No. 5: ”Doubt whom you will, but never yourself”

⚖ Learnings from the happenstance of my life as a lawyer ⚖

Running my own business has its ups & downs. Part of being a #lawpreneur(legal entrepreneur) is riding through the turbulence. But it’s easy to let a negative emotion creep in & take over real estate in my head if things are not going well.

Every #August there is a slump in business. The people I work with shut down for a whole 10 days. You would think by now that I’d be prepared for “Awful August” as I call it, but each year it grabs me tight & makes me feel like giving up my pioneering legal venture in Tokyo & getting a regular job.

💥But then things change. And doubt shifts to positivity. How does that happen?

❓What are my #lawyerlearnings from this August? There are 3️⃣ x learnings.

1️⃣🗣First, I stopped obsessing & rode on through the tunnel to the other side. August is only 31 days in the scheme of a lifetime. Finding out the true reason why things feel horrid means I can now plan to eliminate that in August 2021. That will mean taking a #workcation & crafting #2022plans instead of dooming gloom before it has happened. ✅

2️⃣🗣Second, behaving like I have already taken action! Motivated by the negativity of August, I gave September a positive label - “Seize September.” I started acting as if I had already seized all I wanted to achieve. I celebrated hashtag#smallwins (no fillings at the dentist), hashtag#blessings (Covid-19 subsidy from the Japanese Government) and hashtag#Bigwins (finalist in the law awards). That approach allowed me to pivot mentally and go on to produce the best sales output month this year despite the hashtag#Covid hashtag#operatingsystem. First came the visualization of a done action and what followed was dissipation of the feeling of doubt.✅

3️⃣🗣Third, setting up goals to ride the success train for the rest of the year. I’m doing the 90-day Unbreakable Focus Challenge. I am focused on 1 of 5 declared goals every day through to Christmas Eve. Working with a group of online entrepreneurs for accountability is key. Instead of self-doubt that the shadow of August would follow me into December, I have a hashtag#positive focus each day to get things done on this 90-day journey. Looking at what my fellow entrepreneurs achieve is a source of real inspiration. If they succeed, I am succeeding too.✅
